How are you really doing today? This is a challenging time, to be sure. It is likely that you are feeling the loneliness of this unprecedented time in history. I feel your pain and want to do whatever I can to ease the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness you may be slipping into now and then. I ask you today; What do you need the most right now?
I find myself in moments of contemplation more often these days. The quiet is both helpful to me and disconcerting. Is that more because the noise of the “pre-COVID-19 days” was so great that I simply did not have the time to consider the important things? I both want and NEED clarity right now. And I do believe that is what the entire world seeks as well.
May I share more of my thoughts with you? We live in uncharted waters, my good friends. What I need most is to share without fear, shame, judgment or restraint. What I need is to know that you, the neighbor I don’t yet know down the street, and the child that I may have walked past while in Lima last year is safe from harm, nourished well enough to combat this viral enemy, and the world that is changed so much will somehow come out the other side smelling sweeter than ever before.
What do you need? How can I help with that? If you need me to listen, I will. If you need me to send you funny memes, I will. Do you want to talk about something that is totally unrelated and yet top of mind? Call me. Do you need to connect to family and friends in a unique way? I can help you with my somewhat limited knowledge of technology, as I am learning more every day.
Tap into your creativity. Walk mindfully outside around your home and dream of ways to improve your landscape and view. Mend a relationship that has suffered. Mix a new color with the half-used cans of paint stored in your basement and change the scenery in your home office. Pick up the phone to call someone just to say, “How are you today”. Host a ZOOM dance party. Create a happy hour with friends. Start a new online business if you need to create new sources of income.
Feed your soul as you contemplate and navigate the space we are calling our “New Normal”. It’s likely that you are unsure when we will be able to freely explore our planet as before. I certainly am unsure. Having made a business of advising travelers for the last 20 years, I am certainly feeling unsettled in this turbulent and uncertain time in history, just as you probably are.
And yet, this too shall pass. I feel the hope growing inside of me. And I want that for you. Please reach out in the comments to share with me what you need and even what you want moving forward. Let’s support each other as much as is humanly possible. Take that much-needed personal assessment, fortifying your body first…as in put your own oxygen mask on before helping that child beside you, right? We are walking beside each other at this moment in time, and my hand is in yours.
Be well in every way, my friend.
Virtual hugs from Ohio,
Bobbie Rae Murphy
